Biome Diagnostics GmbH (BiomeDx^®) is an Austrian based MedTech company committed to advance precision medicine by pioneering microbiome-based technologies that transform cancer care.

The company is strategically positioned at the intersection of state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and advanced machine learning algorithms to develop first in class technologies for routine clinical practice.

BiomeDx is worldwide the first microbiome company certified according to ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 9001:2015.

At BiomeDx, we aim to understand and link microbial functions in the context of complex biological metadata, including human diversity such as genetics, health status, medication, nutrition, etc.

Our vision is to decipher one of today’s most challenging approaches to advance precision cancer treatments. We do that by combining microbiome diagnostics and well-tested machine learning models.

Our mission is to build world-class microbiome diagnostics and therapeutics to be applied by clinicians in routine healthcare systems.

Founders and Management

Biome Diagnostics GmbH was founded by Dr. Barbara Sladek and Dr. Nikolaus Gasche with the vision to develop and integrate next generation microbiome-based technologies into healthcare and medicine.

Nikolaus Gasche, MD

Nikolaus is a serial entrepreneur and medical doctor who has gained experience at hospitals throughout Austria, Germany, and Africa, which inspired him to numerous business projects. His first software company developed ERP systems for small / medium-sized enterprises with a focus on IT security and was sold successfully in 2016. By combining his medical and technical knowledge, he is dedicated to bridge the gap of microbiome research and clinical medicine by applying latest technologies. Nikolaus Gasche has been placed on the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Barbara Sladek, PhD, MBA

Barbara gained her scientific expertise during her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford (UK). She made her business career at Siemens Healthineers, where she was responsible for Business Development in various healthcare systems across European countries. During her MBA (Corporate Finance) at the WU ExecutiveAcademy, she broadened her analytical know-how and practical management knowledge which was particularly advantageous for starting BiomeDx. Barbara is fascinated by bringing newest scientific insights into medical settings to establish successful businesses.
