Nikolas Gasche, co-founder of myBioma, developed an interest in the gut during his medical studies and, in 2018, co-founded BiomeDx with Barbara Sladek to provide scientifically-based analysis of intestinal bacteria. This microbiome significantly impacts our well-being, immune system, and overall health.
BiomeDx has developed various test kits, including BiomeOne, which is the world’s first immunotherapy response prediction test based on the microbiome. This test not only detects cancer but also assesses the effectiveness of immunotherapy in treating it, helping to prevent potential side effects. The FFG played a significant role in BiomeDx’s product development through its funding programs, including the basic program and the Austrian Life Sciences Program. They recognized the startup’s potential early on and provided support for funding applications.
Currently, the FFG is collaborating with BiomeDx to develop a test for detecting irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which has a substantial global market potential due to its prevalence.
